Research Interests: In my research, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy is used to analyze the evolved gases in thermal decomposition reactions. By studying the evolved gases, the thermodynamics and kinetics of the reactions are determined. Two major types of compounds are being studied presently. The decomposition of first row transition metal-acetylacetonate complexes is being studied because these compounds can be used in Chemical Vapor Deposition processes. The thermal degradation of carbon tetrachloride and 1,2-dichloroethane in the presence of copper sulfide and copper oxide to assess their use as destructive reagents for chlorocarbons.
