The goal of Shanandoah Valley Nanoscience Outreach Collaboration (SVNOC) is to help K-12 teachers to bring nanoscience into their classrooms. Nanoscience already has had a tremendous impact in many aspects of our daily life! For example, due to nanoscience discoveries we have been able to design more efficient and smaller transistors which led to the minimization of cell phones, laptop computers, and other electronic devices.

JMU faculty started hosting workshops for local K-12 school educators since Fall of 2010 as a follow-up to the 2010 Faraday Lecture with Prof. Chad Mirkin. These workshops are co-sponsored by the JMU Center for Materials Science and the JMU Center for STEM Education Outreach. The workshops are from 5:30 - 7:00 pm in the Physics Department at JMU.

Each year, the workgroup organizes a NanoDays event which is hosted by the local Explore More Discovery Museum located in the downtown of Harrisonburg, VA.

All Shenandoah Valley STEM educators interested in learning more about "How Small Is Small" are welcome to attend. Dinner is provided. For more details contact Dr. Costel Constantin at the email address
