Test will be traditional physics tests where the student will be expected to work through problems to obtain solutions. There will most likely be some multiple choice or concept questions on tests however on some exams conceptual discussions may be primarily connected with an exam problem solution rather than a conceptual section of a test. Students will need to be able to work quantum mechanics problems. Typically test time allows for only a few problems so the tests will sample the material.

The homework is a great way for the student to position his/her self for an optimal grade. My advice is to attack this segment of the course aggressively from the start.

• Organize study groups.
• Try the problems and bring questions to class while the material is being covered.
• Turn in at least some completed problems on the due date.

I intend to enforce a strict time constraint on homework, there will be significantly less credit given to problems submitted after the due date. My suggestion is to make time to discuss difficulties with homework with me on or before the due date. If I see progress but sense a need for a bit more time I can extend the due date a bit. I do not intend to accept homework that is several weeks late.
