There are several small bike shops around the area. The shops do tend to have used bikes for sale but often not many. I visited shops in Brugg, Stilli, Dottingen and Klein Dottigen. I found that bike prices can be very high so it may take some shopping around to find an inexpensive bike. The first bike I bought was in Stilli. It cost 60 SF VELOREP Fahradservice 056 284 11 20 Reto Machler Widumstrasse 7, Stilli The owner was very nice. I just took the bus to Stilli and wandered around until I found the place. I think Frau PulverMueller had recommended the place and may have called ahead. I knew that they had a couple of used bikes for sale. I then bought a couple of bikes in Klein Dottingen. You can take the bus from PSI (north). Klein Dottingen is just before you go over the river and enter Dottingen. The bike shop is about 1/2 mile out of the town center. It is a fairly large bike shop by Swiss standards. KEWA RAD Haupstr 58 Klein Dottingen 056 245 58 55 This guy was always promising to dig out used bikes from his various wharehouses but he never did. He gave us a couple of bikes to use in the interim. In the end I paid him 100 SFR per bike to rent three bikes for a month. I was happy with this arrangement because the bikes were a better quality and we did end up using them to travel the area which of course is very hilly. I did all the transactions in German. I would think that whomever is now in the PSI front office could make some calls. I did find that the service is rather leisurely at KEWA. I ended up hanging out while the guy dealt with other customers etc. but in the end I was very happy with the arrangements. I notice that rental of bikes at the train station seems to be about 25-30 SFR/day. There may be a better rate by the week. If you buy a bike in Switzerland, don't forget to buy the "vignette" (sticker) which costs 5 CHF and is your mandatory liability insurance (if you hurt a pedestrian, damage acar, etc...). The bike shops can sell you this.
