The individual option plan is meant to provide the flexibility needed for students to pursue interdisciplinary or unique plans of study. It requires completion of the core requirements and 25 additional physics or related credits above PHYS 260 approved by the student's advisor and department head.. The plan of study should be coherent and challenging and motivated toward a particular goal of study, not simply a collection of desired courses. Examples of individual option plans in the past have included ones geared toward biophysics, geophysics, and secondary school education.

Notes:

  • Most of the courses listed on the grid above are in the semester in which they are offered (odd = fall, even = spring). For instance, PHYS 460 is only offered in the spring semester.
  • The grid above is only one way in which this program may be completed and there are other possibilities which include all these same courses. Talk to you advisor if you have questions.
  • If this is to be used for teaching licensure, it is important the the requirements of the School of Education also be met. Furthermore, such a plan should include courses in biology, geology, and organic and inorganic chemistry.
  • Because of the nature of this sequence, it is extremely important that the student communicate with all parties involved to be sure of course availability in future semesters and hidden prerequisites. Nothing should be assumed or taken for granted.
