Program for the 2004 meeting of the Astronomy, Math, and Physics with Materials Sciences section, which will be held at  Virginia Commonwealth University on May 26th .

The  Virginia Academy of Science  is an outstanding state science organization.  It sponsors the Virginia Junior Academy of Science, which is perhaps the best state organization for secondary school students in the nation.

For college faculty there are many good reasons to participate in the academy:

1.  It's a good place for your undergraduate students to give papers.  It is inexpensive.  Students can generally drive to the meeting, present their papers, and drive home the same day.
facing science eduators in the Commonwealth.

  3.  It's fun.  It's a good place present some of your more conjectural papers in a low-pressure environment.  You can
also see papers in disciplines that you won't ordinarily find at your more specialized science societies.

  4.  The VAS serves the people of Virginia.  It is occasionally called on to advise the government on issues such as science education, and pollution.  The Academy initiated the creation of the Virginia Science Museum.

One of my duties as a member of the Virginia Academy of Science is secretary for the Astronomy, Math, and Physics
Section.  (2001-2).
