I was born in upstate New York in 1942, and attended school in New York State, and Maryland. My college degrees are all in physics, and include BS (Union College), MS (Univ. of Illinois), and PhD (Univ. of Wisconsin). I have worked as a development engineer for Eastman Kodak Company. I have done teaching and research at the University of Maryland, Florida Atlantic University, and James Madison University, where I am currently a professor.
My professional interests include celestial mechanics, mathematical modeling, electronics, energy R&D,and computer programming. Other interests include ancient history, math & logic puzzles, chess, hiking, word origins, and sailing.
In the JMU Physics Department, I usually teach electronics, seminar, and introductory labs.
Professional and honorary organizations to which I belong include the American Physical Society , the American Astronomical Society , the Virginia Academy of Science , Sigma Xi, Phi Beta Kappa , and the Society of Physics Students .
My wife and I have been married since 1965, and we have four
sons whose birthdates range from 1967 to 1981.
